Opal F. Varner

Opal Fern Varner, 90 of Sorento passed away at 2:35 PM on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health care Center.

She was born on April 12, 1925 at Sorento the daughter of Harry and Rosie Ann (Pollard) Ingles. Opal married Edward Varner on August 8, 1945 at Staunton; he preceded her in death on July 9, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her Parents; Son, Gary Varner; Sisters, Dorothy Enloe, Goldie Saathoff and Lora Giffen; Brothers, Clifford, Cecil, Francis, Udell, Dean and Donald Ingles.

Opal worked as a cook at Sorento Elementary School for many years. She was also custodian at Sorento Assembly of God Church for more than 30 years and a lifelong Sunday School Teacher at the church as well. She was a member of Sorento Assembly of God Church and Kessinger American Legion Post 713 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors: Son, Billie (wife, Esther) Varner of Sorento, IL; Daughter in law, Corrine Varner of Sorento, IL; 4 grandchildren, Thomas Varner of Staunton, IL, Dwayne (wife, Beth) Varner of Springfield, IL, Vonda (husband, Scott) Schuett of Sorento, IL and James Varner of Catoosa, OK; 2 Step great grandchildren, Conner and Riley York; Sister, Irma Cress of Hillsboro, IL; Brother, Shirley (wife, Hazel) Ingles of Bradenton, FL and Wood River, IL; Numerous nieces and nephews and 3 sisters in law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento with Rev. Cameron Lawrence and Kevin Simburger officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until time of service at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento.

Memorials are suggested to Sorento Assembly of God Church.
