Patrick Dale “Patty” Whalen, 90, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 1:50 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville, IL.

Patty was born November 19, 1928 in Farmersville, IL, the son of Patrick Leo and Ella Josephine (Marten) Whalen.  He married Patricia Jean Vota on February 18, 1954 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and they have enjoyed over 65 years of marriage.

Patty graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1946, where he was an excellent, multi-sport athlete.  He was a life-long farmer, but always made time to give back to his community.  Patty was a long-time member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1151, and he spent many years coaching little league baseball.  He also enjoyed bowling, playing baseball, and golf, making 5 holes-in-one over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo, Bill, and Clyde Whalen; and sisters, Sr. Mary Patrick, OSF, Mildred DeFeo, Luella Eickhoff, and Marjorie Mormino.

Patty is survived by his wife, Patricia Whalen of Morrisonville, IL; children, Joseph (wife, Dianne) Whalen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Marcia Nicklas of Springfield, IL, Patrick “Andy” (wife, Connie) Whalen of Morrisonville, IL, and Thomas (wife, Jane) Whalen of Chatham, IL; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Mormino of Taylorville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Prayer Service: The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4th St., Morrisonville, IL 62546 with the Very Rev. Albert Allen, V.F. celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.  

Memorial Contributions may be made to: Morrisonville Baseball, 301 School St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.  Donations of food may be brought to the Morrisonville Knights of Columbus Hall on Thursday.

  1. Uncle Dale was the uncle who always had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face, and a joke to tell. He lived life joyfully and with an enviable grace. Thanks for the love you gave to all the family.
