Patsy was born November 27, 1942, in Stoddard County, Missouri, the daughter of Aaron Haris James and Mary Adeline Tippen. She spent her youth in St. Louis before moving to Dayton, Ohio, for a few years, and eventually returned to Mulberry Grove in the early 1990s, where she made her home. On July 11, 1968, she married Donald Van Hoose, and together they shared 37 years of marriage before his passing on April 16, 2005.
Patsy was a hardworking woman whose faith ran deep. She attended the Family Worship Center in Vandalia and was known for her loving, caring, and friendly spirit. Family meant everything to her, and she had a special place in her heart for her dogs. She enjoyed gardening and growing houseplants, taking great pride in a wandering Jew plant that grew so long it covered an entire room.
Over the years, Patsy worked in a variety of jobs, including factory work, fast food, and as a maid at a local hotel, all while maintaining her responsibilities on the family farm. When her children were young, she loved taking them out dancing. She also enjoyed her daily soap operas and could often be found watching QVC, which was almost always on in her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Van Hoose; a son, Bobby Phillips; a son-in-law, John Robinson; and sisters, Joyce Moore, Melba Robbins, Ruby Shelby and Donna White.
Survivors include her son, Donald Van Hoose II of Patoka, Illinois; daughters, Barbara Robinson, Betty Phillips, and Brenda Walker; grandchildren, Donald Van Hoose III, Shawn Willis, Dustin Van Hoose, Austin Van Hoose, and Elizabeth (Jason Casey) Van Hoose; great-granddaughter, Aurora Willis; along with several nieces and nephews.
