Rebecca Lynn ‘Becky’ Diesselhorst, a lifelong resident of Bond County, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the age of 68. Born in Vandalia, IL, to Dale and Bessie (DeVall) Litzenberg, Becky lived a life filled with love, laughter, and generosity. She graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1974 and later earned a degree in Early Childhood Development from Kaskaskia College. On May 23, 1991, she married her beloved spouse Terry, sharing a bond that lasted through life’s ups and downs. They spent 32 wonderful years together and built a lifetime of memories for their family to cherish.
With a love for children, Becky put her heart into daycare for over 20 years, having owned and operated The Gingerbread House in Carlyle for many of those. She cared for countless little ones and was a cherished part of many families, especially her own. Her positive outlook and ability to find the good in every situation made her a light in the lives of those around her. Her joyful spirit shined brightest around the holidays—especially Christmas, which was her favorite time of year. She had an impressive snowman collection and loved decorating every corner of her home for the season. Whether it was celebrating Christmas in July or filling the air with holiday music, she found pure joy in spreading festive cheer. She always found joy in life’s simple things such as cross-stitching and making floral arrangements as well as dancing, baking, and antique shopping. She also loved Hallmark movies and never missed a chance to spoil her grandkids. One of her favorite sayings with them was, “Love you wider than the…” and the kids would chime in, “…the ocean!”
Becky cherished time spent at the beach, where she found joy in collecting seashells and listening to the waves. Though she lived most of her life in Bond County, she also enjoyed periods of residence in Orange Beach, Alabama, and Branson, Missouri, creating beautiful memories along the way. Her love for chocolate and ice cream was as
big as her heart, and she always greeted people with a warm smile and infectious happiness. A woman of deep faith, she found comfort in Christian music and treasured
the feeling of being needed by those she loved.
Becky is survived by her husband, Terry Diesselhorst of Carlyle; daughters, Rachel (Josh) Taylor of Carlyle, Brandy Johnson and Denise Lile of Greenville; grandchildren,
Chase and Landun Taylor of Carlyle, Mason and Davin Johnson of Highland, Lexi Smith of Virginia, Kamren and Kaylan Lile of Greenville; sisters, Nancy (Randy) Flachsbart of Highland and Linda Willman of Greenville. Her legacy of kindness, joy, and love will live on in her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.

So sorry to see this…Becky was a beautiful soul. Hold the memories and each other close.

My sympathy to all those whose lives she touched. Terry, you’re a great man whose example of love “in sickness and in health” humbles and inspires me. Wishing you peace and healing and the comforts of your kids and grandkids, who understandably adore you. I’m sorry all of you lost someone so beloved so tragically. May fond memories ease your suffering.
Terry please know you in our hearts and prayers during this time. Becky was such an amazing woman and friend. We have such great memories of our time we lived down at the beach at the same time. It was a lifelong friendship we treasure. We pray for comfort and peace knowing that that beautiful woman is now seeing and able to walk the streets of heaven while she now watches over you. I have no doubt she is looking for the best seashells she can find. You have been such a wonderful caregiver for her and you were both truly blessed. Keep those sweet memories close.
