Rex Ketchem

PAXTON – Rex A. Ketchem, 59, of Paxton passed away on Monday (Sept. 20, 2010) at his home after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Knapp-Miller Funeral Home in Paxton. A second visitation will also run for two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Sept. 24, at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento, Ill. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.
Rex was born on June 27, 1951, in Kewanee, a son of Lloyd M. and Helen L. Dowell Ketchem.
Survivors include one daughter, Heather Ketchem of Hoopeston; one son, Michael Ketchem of Louisville, Ky.; his companion, Sue Calhoun of Thomasboro; one sister, Susi (Tony) Tebbe of Highland; two brothers, Bob (Lisa) Ketchem of Smithboro and Joe (Heather) Ketchem of St. Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rex graduated from the National FBI Academy, served 23 years with the Illinois State Police and retired as a lieutenant. He was a proud Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville alumni and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed substitute teaching in his retirement.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Association, the Fraternal Order of Police or the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Educational Foundation.
