Robert Lee Cowell

Robert Lee Cowell, 82, of Taylorville died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at 1:51 p.m. at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.

He was born August 22, 1922, in Stonington, the son of Rollie and Pearl Irene (Davenport) Cowell. He married Virginia Pearl Greffe on June 20, 1947, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy AF. He was a coal miner at Mine #8 and worked at Georgia Pacific in Taylorville from 1951-1988. Mr. Cowell was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg.

Surviving are his son, David Lee (wife Kay) Cowell of Taylorville; daughter, Martha Jane (husband Rod) Evans of Naperville; grandchildren: Jeffery Lee (wife Jessica) Cowell, Douglas William Cowell, Sarah Lynn Cowell, Luke Colby Martin and Abbie Jane Martin; two step-grandchildren; Jennifer Lynn Evans and Christopher Michael Evans; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two sisters, Mary Irene McGorrey and Ruth Ellen Ellrich.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Sharpsburg, with Pastor Rick Rinde officiating. Burial will be held at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, at Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville.
