Robert T. McKinnon, Sr., 82, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:42 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Bob was born August 23, 1935 in Pana, IL, the son of L. Eugene “Chuck” and Frieda Marie (Davis) McKinnon.  He married Barbara Ann Oller on December 16, 1961 at the Southern Baptist Church of Taylorville.

Bob graduated from Taylorville High School in 1954, and went on to earn his electrician’s certification from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL.  He would retire from the Norfolk Southern Railroad after over twenty years of service as an electrician.  Bob was a member of Taylorville Christian Church, and a past member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge 1516.  In his youth, he loved to golf, but fishing was his most passionate pastime.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Eric Charles McKinnon.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barb McKinnon of Taylorville, IL; son, Robert T. (wife, Cathy) McKinnon, Jr. of O’Fallon, MO; his grandson, Robert T. McKinnon III of O’Fallon, MO; sister, Evelyn Oller of Bedford, TX; brothers, Richard (wife, Penny) McKinnon of Molalla, OR, and Ronald (wife, Sandy) McKinnon of Watauga, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville, with Pastor James Jones and Pastor Dick Wamsley as officiants.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

    We know your hearts are broken, as are ours, at the loss of Uncle Bob. He and Aunt Barb have been strength, support, and love for me for many years. No matter what, I always felt warmly welcomed, accepted just as I am, and loved when I walked into your home. Uncle Bob is dearly missed. We love all of you.
