Rosalind Baker Giersch, 104, of Springfield, formerly of Taylorville, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, December 26, 2004, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Springfield.
She was born August 3, 1900, in Plymouth, Connecticut, the daughter of Captain George L. and Magdalene Beyer Baker. She married Albin Giersch on August 22, 1929. He died January 9, 1979. She was a graduate of Wells College in Ithaca, New York, and the Boston Institute of Musical Art. She was a 50-year member of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving in the Fort Dearborn and Peter Meyer Chapters. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Taylorville, and also a member of National Society of Magna Charta Dames and Barnes, Plantagenet Society, Daughters of 1812, the Republican Party and Taylorville Women’s Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Giersch of Springfield; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David W. Giersch; and sister, Elizabeth Baker Knight.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, in First United Methodist Church, Taylorville, with Rev. Bill Frazier officiating.
