Ruby Pearl Tipsword

Ruby Pearl Tipsword, 95, of Panama, IL, passed away at 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Ruby was born September 1, 1923 in Sorento, IL, the second oldest daughter of Aaron “Red” and Pearl (Robertson) Steele.  She married Marvis Duane Tipsword on June 10, 1950 in Hillsboro, and they had no children.  He preceded her in death on January 29, 2012.

Ruby worked as a mail clerk, starting at the Sorento Post Office, then the Army Depot in Decatur, IL, and later transferring to Toms River, NJ for the Army, where she retired after 20 years of service.  She was excellent at what she did, and won many awards over the course of her career.  Ruby retired to Panama, IL, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lucille Gruner, and Bernice Frigo; and brothers-in-law, Harold Gruner, Bruno Frigo, and Billie Tipsword.

Ruby is survived by her sister, Jewel Tipsword of Sorento, IL; nieces, Marsha Gruner of Highland, IL, Vicki Frigo Durbin of Hillsboro, IL, Sharon Tispword Eck of Springfield, IL; nephews, Larry Gruner of Greenville, IL, and Rick Frigo of Jacksonville, IL; and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 201 S. Main St., Sorento, IL 62086.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento, with Rev. Ralph Ward officiating.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL.
