Sarah Nettie Thomas
Sarah Nettie Thomas, 95, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.
Sarah was born October 15, 1924 in Christian County, the daughter of Francis Bela and Mary (Durbin) Durbin. She graduated from Taylorville High School, and worked for many years as a key punch operator for the State of Illinois. Sarah also worked for many years in housekeeping for St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Sarah was always a church goer. She cared deeply for others, and donated much of her time writing sermons that she used to minister to the elderly, in various retirement communities. Besides writing sermons, Sarah also enjoyed writing poetry and prose. She loved picking berries, that she used to bake in pies, and she also loved a good game of Yahtzee, Chicago Cubs baseball, and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother, Reuben; sisters, Bernadine, Inez, and Anna; and daughter-in-law, Sharon (Stoneburner) Thomas.
Sarah is survived by her sons, Melvin (wife, Sue) Thomas, and Glen Thomas, both of Taylorville; daughters, Rae (husband, James) Dulakis of Morrisonville, and Sharon (husband, Maury) Goodman of Warrenville; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother, Dwight Durbin of Decatur; sister, Lillian Blessant of Taylorville; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial ceremonies will be held at a later date.
