Sharon Lynn (McNamara) Matthews, 67, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:34 a.m. on January 28, 2025 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Sharon was born February 15, 1958, in Chicago, the daughter of Ronald Martin “Corky” and Betty Jo (Cox) McNamara.  She married William Franklin Matthews on July 9, 1977, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Sharon graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1976 and went on to work as the office manager and bookkeeper for her father’s business, McNamara Electric.  From there, she went on to work for the State of Illinois Treasurer’s Office as a Senior Accountant for over 30 years.  Sharon was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church, volunteering and assisting with many events and church activities.

Sharon was a passionate and talented musician.  She was a classically trained organist, and she also enjoyed playing piano and guitar.  Her love of horses led her to compete in show jumping, where she rode Hunter Jumpers.  Sharon and Bill loved competitive dancing too, especially County & Western Ballroom Dancing.  Together they won the Honky Tonk Division of the Gateway Classic in St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Matthews; and a brother-in-law, Bill Dively.

Sharon is survived by her sisters, Mary Jo Dively of Taylorville, Kathy J. (husband, Robert) Noblet of Taylorville, and Rhonda J. (husband, Steven) Wagner of Frankfort; nieces and nephews, Bill Dively, Jr., T.J. Dively, Josh Dively, Ronald Noblet, Col. Andrew Noblet, Matthew Noblet, Iris Noblet – Crites, Julie Emerson, Stacey Agans,Billy Matthews, and Gina (Kevin) Brandani; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Per Sharon’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A private service will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to:  Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 N. Webster, Taylorville, IL.  62568.
