Shirley A. Brown, 80, of Millersville, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Shirley was born May 12, 1942, in Taylorville, the daughter of Jesse Monroe and Opal Marie (Huddelston) Enlow. She married James Allen Brown on May 21, 1970, in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2016.
Shirley graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1960. She worked for many restaurants in the Taylorville area as both a waitress and cook. She owned and operated Shirley’s Café on East Main Cross for many years and was best known for her Cheese Soup and Biscuits and Gravy. After retiring from the restaurant, she worked many more years as an In-Home Health Aid.
Shirley was an extraordinarily hard worker, and nothing could be too clean. She enjoyed a good game of BINGO, but most of all she loved her family. Shirley loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard “Ricky” Bush; brother, Jim Enlow; and sister, Sue Sumpter.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Theresa Bush of Kincaid; sons, Troy Bush of Chicago, Gerald (wife, Tammi) Brown of Kincaid, and James L. Brown of Millersville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Glen (Bonnie Stole) Enlow of Taylorville, Sharon L. Enlow of Taylorville, Freda M. Norel of Taylorville, Jessie M. (Wayne) Kramer of Batesville, AR, Sarah E. (Roy) Avery of Taylorville, and Rebecca L. Ott of Reedsburg, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Millersville Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville with ceremonies.
