It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Earl Potts, 76, of Sorento, Illinois on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Hillsboro Health Hospital, in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Born in Hillsboro December 1, 1948, to Earl and Opal (Rea) Potts, Stanley was proud to be a local boy. He was raised and lived in the Bond County area his whole life, graduating from Greenville High School and then going on to serve his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard during the war in Vietnam. While in the service and beyond, he entertained his love for cooking, becoming especially known for his lasagna.

After his military service, he returned home where he found himself joining the Laborers Union Local 622, dedicating his life to hard work and to providing for his family. A man of simple pleasures, he found happiness in the great outdoors and being with his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but what he really looked forward to the most was mushroom hunting season. Often sharing his adventures through storytelling, Stan brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone who knew him.

Known for his caring and supportive nature, he had a good sense of humor that brought smiles to all. He enjoyed watching westerns, in particular John Wayne movies, and was a proud collector of knives. Whether telling stories, spending time with family, or whipping up a tried-and-true recipe, Stanley made every moment count. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Bullet, who was always by his side.

Stan is survived by his son, Michael Potts of Alton, Illinois; step-son, Jeremy Coolidge of Sorento, Illinois; step-daughter, Tanya Bauer of Sorento, Illinois; brothers, Steve Potts, Dallas Potts and Joe Potts; sister, George Ann (Steven) Erickson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, DJ Potts; brother, Don Potts; and sister, Mary Potts.

Cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.

The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the arrangements.
