  1. So thankful for the many good memories I have of time spent with the Johnson family years ago. So very thankful for the visit we had just a couple of years ago while attending a class reunion. The Johnson family will always have a special place in my heart! Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Stanley was Superintendent of Mulberry schools back in my high school days. When we would be punished, they would give up “opportunity ” which meant we spent time over our lunch after we ate in a class room where we was to study instead of having 15 or so free minutes. One time Mike Scott (a war hero of the Class of 66 who gave his life for our country), and I decided we would see who would get the most opportunity. The teacher that one day stepped out of the class and Mike and I started talking. All of a sudden the classroom door opened up and there stood a giant of a man, one who knew my parents and I was totally scared of, Mr Johnson. He took Mike and I down to his office and best I remember, we got a good scolding and probably a few more days of opportunity. Later in life I had the pleasure to be working at the courthouse when Stanley was with the Superintendent of Schools and later as Probation Officer. I asked him one day if he remembered that episode that happened many years ago and he said he didn’t. Many times I’ve brought it to him but I always tell him that he never realized how big a man he looked to me that day. It was a pleasure to know Mr Johnson, both as an Superintendent, and later in life proud to call Stanley my friend. He was a very good man.

  3. Johnson family- My sincerest sympathy to all of you at the loss of Stan or "Mr. Johnson" as we always knew him in school. He was a quiet and kind man. Always pleasant. My prayers and hugs go out to you. Christine Gum Garner

  4. Stanley loved to quail hunt and he , I and Larry Rench spent many hours behind bird dogs chasing the quail .

  5. Our sympathy to all the family. When I first started at the Simple Room Stanley was the Bond County Probation Officer. I talked with him frequently about young people he was working with. He had such a genuine concern for these young people's well being. He was also very encouraging to me and had a lot of wisdom he humbly shared. I appreciate having known him and benefited from his kindness. John Heston

  6. Dear Nadine, Scott, Diana, Kent & Kevin, So sorry to hear of your loss. Stanley was a sweet man. I always enjoyed talking with him. I especially enjoyed when he'd sing and play the guitar at church. He will be greatly missed. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Julie (Dothager) Andresen

  7. You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your father, husband, grandfather. Mr. Johnson was so highly respected by all our family. He was quiet spoken but very sincere and pleasant. I remember him being our Superintendent of Mulberry Grove Community Unit #1, as Regional Supt. of schools, and as a wonderful neighbor anytime I saw him. May God give you peace, comfort, and courage during this difficult time. I consider myself fortunate to have known him. Clareen Dooly Dunn.

  8. Stanley's Bible Study: One of the special memories I have is spending nights with Stanley & Nadine at their home. Tim (son-in-law) would invite me up to Mulberry to deer or quail hunt, and we would turn it into an overnight event. After a fun day in the field, we would return to a great meal prepared by Nadine. If I was lucky (and I usually was), Nadine had made pecan turtles and a dessert. I must admit there were times when I stashed a few away for the ride home. As much as I looked forward to a great hunt, good foot and treats – it was our after dinner conversations. Most nights we never even made it away from the table, and we would start discussing the differences in the Nazarene and Baptist religions. Then, that would lead into what we thought, or how we interpreted certain verses and scriptures. He would get out his worn Bible – read or quote scripture, and say "Dave, what do you make of this – after sharing what I thought, he would tell me what he thought or what he had experienced. I can remember staying up long hours after Tim and Nadine had gone to bed (often times thinking that I was going to be sorry I stayed up so late – I never was). To the Family, I am so sorry for your loss, but you can take great comfort in knowing that he is with our Lord. When I was lucky enough to spend a night at the Johnson's home, I always looked forward to, and was blessed to sit in on one of Stanley's Bible studies.

  9. I would like to express my sympathy and condolences to the Johnson family. I have fond memories of Stanley. As a youngster, I spent many hours in his yard playing ball and various other games. He was always kind and thoughtful. Stanley always had a smile and a kind words. He was very helpful to my mother when ever my college paperwork was filled out. I don't think we could have done it without his help. He was a find man, and a good example. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the Johnson family.
