Stanley P. Balsley, 82 of the Cumberland Cove Community near Monterey, TN passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN.

He was born on July 28, 1933 at Morrisonville the son of the late William P. and Helen D. (Kitchell) Balsley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Bales.

Stan enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving as an aircraft mechanic. After separation, he attended college and worked in civilian aviation for two years before rejoining the U.S. Navy through the NAVCAD program, becoming an aircraft pilot. He served in Africa, Europe and Asia, as well as on the USS Kitty Hawk.
A plane accident while serving at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM, left him with severe burns and he was discharged in 1965. He completed his college education with a BBA in Accounting from the University of New Mexico.

After working with United Brands (Chiquita Banana), he was involved with public health clinics, retiring from Stanley C. Myers in Miami, Fla.

In 1988, he moved to the Cumberland Cove Community, where he was an active member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees.

Survivors include: His wife, Wanda Balsley of Monterey, TN; Daughter, Frances Riley of Greensboro, NC; Sons, Greg (wife, Lori) Balsley and Robert Balsley both of McKinley, TX; 4 Grandchildren, Joshua Balsley, Melvin Riley, Philip Riley and Patrick Riley; Sister, E. Patricia Birsner of Taos, NM; Brothers, Leland (wife, Ellie) Balsley of Virginia Beach, VA and Ronald (wife, Sandra) Balsley of Victor, ID; 3 Step children, Kelly Long, Robin Mattos and Valerie Sergio.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville with Rev. Dayle Badman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville is in charge of arrangements.
