Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Steve was a great friend during our college years at Greenville. He and his wonderful parents opened their home to me giving me a home away from home. Steve and I shared so many experiences creating a rich tapestry of memories of a gentle, sensitive and fun loving spirit. Rest in peace dear friend.

  2. My condolences to Steve’s family. A donation to the Bond County Community Unit #2 Academic Foundation has been made in Steve’s memory by his classmates GHC Class of 1965.

  3. I was a student at Greenville high school when Mr Compton was a substitute teacher. We always loved to have him teach our class. Some kids in the class would always try to get him to tell the story about when he was shot. If we had time he would always tell it no matter how many times the students had heard it. He will be missed.

  4. Steve was beloved in the Class of ’65. His dry wit could always make us smile or laugh. He was loved.

  5. Steve and I were friends from childhood through high school. Not only school but at the Presbyterian Church. We had so much fun and he was a great friend.
    Sorry for his passing.
    Memories will always be precious.
    Wanda Hill McCasland

  6. So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. I remember him from when I lived at Almira Manor. He was always such a nice man. I loved joking around with him. He was always such a good sport. You will be missed Steve.

  7. So saddened to hear of Stephen’s passing. He was living at Almira Manor (where I work as a service coordinator) when I arrived in 2011 and was here until his recent move to Greenville Rehab. Such a nice, friendly guy – a regular in the lobby joining in on the local gossip. I loved talking sports with him, especially sports trivia. Among other things, I remember watching Moneyball together and taking him to Ish Smith’s (who also passed away recently) basement baseball museum. I lost my dad 1 year ago tomorrow so I know the grief of losing your father. My sincere condolences and prayers to Matt & the girls.

  8. Our hearts go out to Matt, Sara & Emmy. Steve was a wonderful friend. Know we care & send
our heartfelt sympathy. Russ and Helen Weston and Family

  9. Steve was a loyal fried and great to be around whether on the job at The Annex Mens clothing store, on the softball field, at Nubys et al or just hanging out. He was a super story teller and an attentive listener. Steve was a thinker and philosophical with serious positions about important topics. I was so sorry to hear the news of his death. He was good guy who created many special and lasting memories. Cant help but miss him.

  10. My thoughts and prayers go out to Steves family at this difficult time . My children had Steve for a teacher and were friends of Matt, Sara and Emily. Deepest Sympathy Kathy Heinkel

  11. Steve was my best friend when we were young since we lived across the alley from each other and played together every day. We remained good friends through high school and college, and I’m so sad about his passing. I remember how delighted he was with the birth of his children, and I send my thoughts and prayers to Matt, Sarah and Emily. He was a lovely person.
