Steven Mitchell

Steven Lee Mitchell, 55, of Edinburg, father of Hillsboro resident Melissa Beck, died at 7:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home, Taylorville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 that day at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell, a former insurance agent for Country Companies, was born Jan. 5, 1954, at Olney, son of the late Isaac W. and Mary (Burris) Mitchell. He was employed in production at Caterpillar Inc. and was a member of United Auto Workers (UAW). He played fast pitch softball on various teams in the Taylorville area and coached Little League sports.

He married Rhonda Starwalt, and they later divorced. He married Kathy Sparks on June 9, 2001, in Newton, and she survives in Edinburg.

Mr. Mitchell leaves a son, Tony (wife Paige) Mitchell of Elburn; daughter, Melissa (husband Aaron) Beck of Hillsboro; stepdaughter, Danielle (husband Ryan) Mireles of Jeiseyville; seven grandchildren, Blake, Mitchell, Chloe, Preston, Caden, Maryn and Gabriella; one brother Richard (wife Margaret) Mitchell of Newton; one nephew, Shawn Mitchell of Taylorville; and one niece, Michelle Witzig of Ann Arbor, MI.
