October 4, 1942 ~ November 2, 2021

Sue Updyke, 79, of Sorento, Illinois, passed away at 12:45 pm., on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at her home.

She was born on October 4, 1942, in Hamilton, Ohio to Charles and Belva (Depew) Foster. She married Martin Edward Updyke on January 12, 1963, in Hamilton, Ohio.

In 1960, she graduated from Hamilton Taft high school in Hamilton Ohio. She worked as a bank teller for many years and was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband, Martin, moved from Ohio to Tucson, Arizona, to Sorento, Illinois where they lived for nearly 20 years, to be closer to their son.

Loving, caring, and strong-willed best describe Sue. Her most important relationships were with her family, as her son and grandchildren hung the moon. She loved watching her children and grandchildren compete in sports and competition. She adored her grandchildren and was so proud of who they have become. Day trips and drives to markets and shops, with a lunch stop along the way was very enjoyable, as it often led to meeting and creating new friends. She was also an avid Ohio Buckeyes football fan, a quilter, and a sewer. It was the simple pleasures in life that made her happy.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Belva and a brother Otis Foster.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Martin, of Sorento, Illinois, her son Kyler (Jamie) Updyke, of Worden, Illinois, her daughter, Lisa (Mike) Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee, grandchildren, Noni and Macy Updyke, siblings, Lois, Nancy (Rob), and Doug.

A private family memorial service will be held at Assalley-Young Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the family for the grandchildren’s education fund.
