Susan Frances Simmons, 80, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Prairie Rose Healthcare Center in Pana, IL.
Susan was born June 13, 1938 in Standard City, IL, the daughter of Brian and Hazel (Goodwin) Lazenby. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1956, and shortly after she married Amos L. Simmons on June 13, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1997. Susan was a homemaker, devoting her time to raising her sons. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, word searches, and had a green thumb in the vegetable garden.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Paul Simmons; brother, Albert Lazenby; sisters, Alberta Simmons, Virginia Lash, and Mary Lazenby; and daughter-in-law, Gail Simmons.
Susan is survived by her sons, Tim L. Simmons of Libertyville, KY, and Raymond C. Simmons, Jerry L. Simmons, and Wilbur P. Simmons, all of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Timmy, Joshua, and Christina Simmons; several great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth) Lazenby of Jerseyville, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.
Interment will follow at Harper’s Ferry Cemetery in Palmer, IL.

My condolences for Susan’s passing. I went to high school with Raymond and Jerry was in my class. I pray that our Lord welcomes her home with open arms and gives comfort to the family in their time of loss.

A few years ago I worked in the Walmart Vision Center and you boys brought her in to get glasses. When I put the glasses on her I remember the look on her face when she could see. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother.
