Velma P. Curvey, 112, of Taylorville died on Friday, December 24, 2010 at 9:27  p.m. at Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville.

She was born on September 15, 1898, in Edinburg, Illinois, to Ruben and Letha Poffenbarger Smith. In 1917, she graduated from Taylorville High School and also attended Eastern Illinois University. She taught in the country schools until her marriage to Merville M. Curvey on September 8, 1927 at the Methodist Parsonage in Taylorville. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, Palmer. She was a very faithful worker at Advent Christian Church and taught the same Sunday School that her mother had taught for over 40 years.

She is survived by her daughter, V. Carolyn Voorhees (Dean) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Edwin (Linda) Voorhees of Morrisonville and Patricia (Tony) Lush of Bakersfield, CA; great-grandchildren: Lela Ferrill, Jeffrey, Andrew, and Abigail Voorhees, Travis, Jarrod, and Josh Lush; eight great-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Charles E. Smith.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home, Taylorville at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be held in Anderson Cemetery, Palmer.

Visitation will be in on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Travis Lush, Jeff Voorhees, Andrew Voorhees, Mark Ferrill, Harold Marberger, and Josh Lush.
