Viola Lillian Ramsey, 96, of Taylorville died Sunday, May 7, 2006 in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.

She was born December 24, 1907, in Henderson County, Kentucky, the daughter of Tolbert and Emma (Duncan) Gibson. She married Arnold Herman on March 17, 1925 and they later divorced. She married Willie Lee Ramsey on April 22, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1990. They resided most of their married life in Logan where they ran a grocery store over 30 years, retiring to Taylorville in 1981. During WWII, Viola worked at the Illiopolis Ammunitions Factory with her sister and had fond memories of that time. She was a member of the Church of God in Kincaid.

Surviving are her sons: Thomas A. (wife Vernie) Herman and William L. (wife Novella) Herman, all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Connie (husband Dick) Havener, Thomas A. (wife Lucille) Herman II, Mark Herman, Marlane (husband Skip) Miller, and Brian Herman all of Taylorville, Charla (husband Stephen) Neal of Morrisonville and Rhonda (husband Toby) Watkinson of San Diego, CA; 21 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Charles Herman, husband, sister, Evelyn Davis, brother, Lockett Gibson and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville, with Rev. Larry Odam officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in Shafer Funeral Home.
