Virginia E. Skinner

Virginia Eileen Skinner 85 of Taylorville, formally of Raymond, was received by her Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 3:20 PM at her residence.
Virginia was born to William T. and Sarah (Reed) Smith on March 14, 1931 in Bethany, IL. She married Glenn L. Skinner on June 18, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, IL.
Virginia was a homemaker for many years before earning her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education at Sangamon University in Springfield, IL. Upon completing her degree, she began a career in teaching which she loved. She was a substitute teacher in the Raymond and Morrisonville school districts, taught at St Paul Lutheran School in Nokomis, St. Louis Catholic School in Nokomis and Berean Baptist Academy in Springfield. She was later employed with the Illinois Department of Revenue from which she retired in 1994.
Virginia's family would often found her studying her Bible in preparation for a Sunday School lesson. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years at the First Baptist Church in Morrisonville, Farmersville Baptist Church where her oldest son, Michael, was the pastor and Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville. Upon her death, she was a member of Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville.
Virginia was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them.
Surviving are her sons, Michael (Kathy) Skinner of Lincoln, IL, Terry (Chris) Skinner of Newburg, IN, Dennis (Mary Ann) Skinner of Raymond, IL; Daughters, Rhonda (Mike) Hawley of Springfield, IL, and Glenna (Larry) Tolliver of Morrisonville, IL. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren: sister, Helen Morgan of Taylorville, IL and brother, Kenneth Smith of Mattoon, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister, Lois Overby; son-in-law, Stephen Peat.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville with her son, Pastor Michael Skinner, officiating. The burial will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
