Virginia L. “Jinny” Bethard, 65, of Morrisonville, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Jinny was born October 14, 1954 in Carlinville, the daughter of James and Anne (Hazelwood) Mathis.  She married Steven V. Bethard on July 12, 1975 in Medora.  Jinny devoted her life to her husband and family as a homemaker.  Many remembered her as the “Cake Lady”, as she baked cakes for many events and special occasions over the years.  Jinny was also an avid animal lover.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Mathis.

Jinny is survived by her mother, Anne Mathis of Medora; spouse, Steven V. Bethard of Morrisonville; children, Matt (wife, Jana) Bergschneider of Taylorville, Madee (husband, Ryan) Christian of Bremerton, WA, Sam Bethard of Morrisonville, Steve (wife, Jayne) Bethard of Morrisonville, Shawn (wife, Amy) Bethard of Morrisonville, and Tim (wife, Jenny) Bethard of Morrisonville; 19 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Dale (wife, Deonia) Mathis of Shipman, Marty (wife, Michelle) Mathis of Shipman, James “Dude” Mathis of Medora, and Tom (wife, Rebecca) Mathis of Medora; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life and private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family has entrusted Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546 with ceremonies.

  2. So very sorry for you Steve and all the Bergschneider and Bethard children. Jinny was always lovely to visit with and was a great neighbor. I will always remember when her little dog Bunny went missing, and Bob found him stuck in the creek by our house. He had been there all night and was terrified. Jinny was so thrilled to have him back mud and all! All her children are a wonderful legacy to her memory. You have our deepest sympathy at this sad time. Bob & Beth Fuchs & family
