Vivian Maxine Hemken, 86, of Walshville, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 3:15 p.m. at Litchfield Healthcare Center.

She was Walshville postmaster for 35 years before her retirement and a lifetime member of the Walshville Christian Church.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Walshville Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Revisky officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento.

Mrs. Hemken was born on June 3, 1922, in Walshville, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Hazel (McPhail) Osburn. She married Russell V. Hemken on Sept. 3, 1939, in Missouri and he preceded her in death in 1991.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Hamby; grandson, Jerry Law; two great-grandchildren, Carrie Satterlee and Justin Hicks; and one great-great-grandson, Landon Lawrence.

Surviving are daughters Nadene (husband Oley) Lawson and Joanne Cartwright, both of Walshville, and Dr. Brenda Hemken (husband Michael Smith) of Sugar Grove; a brother, Charles (wife Betty) Osburn of Staunton; a sister, Lois Ryan of Litchfield; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
