W. Allan Cornell, 66, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at his residence from lung cancer. He also had another residence in Hamburg, Illinois.

He was born on January 25, 1941 in Clinton, the son of Walter E. and Evabel Allan Cornell.

He married Joan Hardy on November 4, 1960 at Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. Mr. Cornell was a retired farmer. He was a Charter Member of the Taylorville Christian Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardner. He was also a great fan of the Taylorville Lady Tornadoes Basketball and went to the games even while taking chemo to watch his granddaughter, Katie, play. At various times in his life, he drove a semi for BiPetro and for ADM. He was the Manager of Midland Soil Service, Sicily, Ill for many years. He was a member of the Christian County Board for 10 years, serving as Finance Chairman for several years. He was a member of the Varmit Hunter's Association 1000 Yard Club.

Surviving are his wife, Joan of Taylorville. Son, Brent A. (wife Janelle), Taylorville and Daughter, Stacey A. Cornell of Champaign. 5 Grandchildren - Justin Cornell of Springfield, Pvt. Brian Cornell, Ft. Jackson S.C., Katie Cornell, Taylorville, Julie Lauffenburger of Pittsburg, Pa., Wendy Lauffenburger, Murray, Ky. Mother, Evabel Cornell, Taylorville, Sister, Karen E. Cornell, Indianapolis, Ind. Brother-in-law, Jack A. Hardy, Davie, FL He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Gary Cornell.

Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2007 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Taylorville Christian Church, 1124 N. Webster, Taylorville. 

Funeral will be on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the Taylorville Christian Church. With Rev. Richard Wamsley officiating. 

Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, Ill.
