Wanda Morgan Powell, age 87 of Greenville, went to her eternal home in Heaven on Monday September 2, 2019 with her family by her side.
She was born September 16, 1931 in Bond County, to the late Paul and Ruth (Mahle) Morgan. She married Richard (Dick) Powell on March 25, 1951. They were married for 62 years before his passing on June 4, 2013. Wanda was born and raised in Greenville. She attended Greenville schools and graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1949. She loved being a mother to her three children Rick, Bruce, and Sandra. She was a loving grandma to Tiffany (Curtis) Bellegante, Emily Jones and her great grandchildren Chase and Mia Bellegante. Wanda stayed home to raise her children and then later worked for Naco Printing and then as the secretary for Leclaire Christian Church in Edwardsville. She resided in Greenville from 1931 until 1981 when her husband's job would take them to Edwardsville, IL. They resided there from 1981 until 1993 and returned to their original home in Greenville. Wanda was a devoted member of the First Christian Church in Greenville Illinois and loved being a part of the Kum Double Sunday school class each Sunday. She served in many ways for the church over the years. She loved camping and was a long time member of the Old National Trail Campers and Hikers club. She loved to read, cooking and bake cookies with her grandkids and was a very talented seamstress. She loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children Richard (Rick) Powell of Greenville, Bruce Powell of Smithboro, and Sandra (Mike) Jones of Brighton, IL. Her grandchildren Tiffany (Curtis) Bellegante of Pocahontas and Emily Jones of Edwardsville. Her great grandchildren Chase and Mia Bellegante. Her sister Veda Merry of St. Louis and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Ruth Morgan, her husband Richard (Dick) Powell, brother- in -laws Jean and Don Powell and Robert (Bob) Merry and her sister- in- law Nancy Powell.
A Celebration of her life will be held at the First Christian Church on September 15th. The family will be welcoming friends and family from 2:00- 4:00 in the church parlor. At 4:00pm, Reverend Daryl Bolen will hold a memorial service this will be followed with a meal in the Family Life Center. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bond Christian Service Camp
