Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Maxine Smith, 86, of Girard, formerly of Morrisonville, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at 1:45 p.m. at Sunrise Manor in Virden.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville with Rev. Ken Lovely officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Morrisonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Perfetti Funeral Home.

She was born May 17, 1924, in Taylorville, the daughter of Irvin and Amelia “Millie” (Skinner) Durbin. She married Oliver A. Smith on Sept. 15, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1998.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Girard. She worked as a CNA at Pleasant Hill Village and Morrisonville and Pana nursing homes.

Her survivors include daughters, Joyce (husband Ramey) Beiermann of Raymond, Judy Lair (companion, Jack Meyer) of Girard, Jean (husband Lloyd) Ersery of Taylorville, Brenda (husband Steve) Reitz of Monticello, and Janice Smith (companion, John Downs) of Girard; sons, Allen Smith of Scheller, Charles Smith of Coffeen; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janet Jones; brother, William Smith; and sister, Kathryn Heath.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
